Liquid Light Lab — Film Processing & Scanning Terms

These Terms apply exclusively to film processing and scanning services provided under the trading name Liquid Light Lab, a division of Liquid Light Whisperer Ltd.

By submitting film or placing an order for lab services, you agree to these Terms.

Liquid Light Lab is a trading name of Liquid Light Whisperer Ltd.

2. Scope of services

These Terms apply to:

  • Film processing (C-41, black & white, ECN-2)

  • Negative scanning

  • Optional return of processed negatives

Photographic shoots, commissions, and vouchers are governed by separate terms.

3. Orders and service selection

You are responsible for selecting the correct service for your film.

Film that is:

  • incorrectly labelled

  • ordered under the wrong process

  • sent without clear identification

may be returned unprocessed or processed at your sole risk. We are not responsible for damage or loss resulting from incorrect service selection.

4. Film handling and inherent risk

All film is handled with reasonable professional care.

You acknowledge that photographic film is a fragile analogue medium and that inherent risks exist, including but not limited to:

  • latent defects

  • manufacturing variation

  • age fog

  • storage or exposure issues prior to receipt

We are not responsible for defects or damage originating before film is received by us.

5. Limitation of liability

If film is lost or damaged while in our care, our total liability is strictly limited to the lower of:

  • the current retail price of equivalent unexposed film, or

  • the amount paid for the relevant processing service

We do not accept liability for:

  • loss of images or content

  • loss of income or opportunity

  • reputational harm

  • emotional distress

  • consequential or indirect loss of any kind

Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability where doing so would be unlawful under UK law.

6. Turnaround times

Turnaround times published on the website or communicated by email are estimates only.

Delays may occur due to workload, equipment maintenance, chemical supply, or technical factors inherent in analogue processing. Turnaround times are not guaranteed.

7. Scanning and image delivery

Scanning specifications are published on the website and form part of the service description.

Scans are delivered electronically via WeTransfer or an equivalent service. Download links remain active for 60 days.

Files are retained for up to 30 days after delivery solely to facilitate re-delivery. After this period, files are permanently deleted.

You are responsible for downloading, backing up, and archiving your files.

8. Colour, density, and re-scans

Scanning involves professional judgement.

We provide a consistent, technically correct baseline render. One reasonable re-scan per roll is included only where a clear technical error has occurred.

Requests based on creative preference or aesthetic interpretation may incur an additional fee.

9. Negative return and shipping

Standard return method

Where a service includes the return of processed negatives, a £3 negative return fee is charged.

This fee covers:

  • Royal Mail Second Class postage

  • archival negative sleeves

  • a protective outer mailing sleeve

Royal Mail Second Class is an untracked postal service.

Transfer of risk

Risk of loss or damage to negatives passes to you once the return package has been handed to Royal Mail.

We are not responsible for:

  • delays

  • loss

  • misdelivery

  • or non-delivery by Royal Mail or any other postal service

The negative return fee does not include insurance or guaranteed delivery.

Alternative arrangements

If you require a tracked or insured return method, you must contact us before ordering to discuss whether an alternative arrangement is possible. Availability of alternative arrangements is not guaranteed.

10. Unclaimed negatives

If return postage has not been paid and negatives remain unclaimed for 90 days, we will make one attempt to contact you.

If no response is received within a further 30 days, we reserve the right to securely store or dispose of the materials at our discretion.

11. Refunds

Once film has been received and processing has begun, refunds are not available except where required by law.

Refunds do not include postage already incurred or third-party payment processing fees.

12. Data protection

We process personal data only as necessary to fulfil lab services and communicate with customers. Full details are set out in our Privacy Policy.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
